From its humble beginnings as a reptile park in Queensland, Australia, the Australia Zoo has grown into one of the world’s premiere zoological parks. Their collection of flora and fauna are primarily from Australia and Asia, though a few residents from the Americas can be seen.
As guests wander through the different exhibits, the general flora does not change. The local tropical environment is consistent throughout the guest areas. Beautiful large enclosures allow the large animals plenty of room to roam while giving guests the best opportunity to witness these magnificent beasts.
One of the unique aspects of the Australia Zoo is the ample opportunity to interact with animals. Guests can feed and pet kangaroos and wallabees, pet koalas, and allow ring-tailed lemurs to scamper around them. These experiences allow for an intimate experience for animal lovers of all ages to gaze, interact, and learn about animal behavior.
The Australia Zoo offers demonstration opportunities with crocodiles and other animals as well.
The Irwin Family stamp can be seen around the zoo, but it is not overt at every bend. Sure there are photos of the family and a couple kitschy photo opportunities, but overall, the Irwin family has stepped into the shadows and allowed the animals to tell their story.
